Presenting in 50 minutes

My conference presentation is in 50 minutes, give or take 5. I've got a couple of trivial changes to make to the slides but the substance and the order of my presentation is finished. I know it by heart and then some. Maybe it's not the strongest work I've ever shown, but it's something I actually did that actually helped scientists get their jobs done. I know I'm good at technical presentations and public speaking doesn't bother me much.

So why am I so nervous?

'Cause you're thinking about it too hard. If it wasn't 8:20 in the morning and you didn't abstain, I'd suggest a shot of hard liquor. ;) You'll do great, you got *in* the conference after all, and you wouldn't have got in if the reviewers didn't think your work was worth presenting. Don't overthink it, and try to take a bit of a mental break before going up there. Read comics, have some coffee, whatever.

I always get nervous beforehand. I think it has something to do with the fact that beforehand (assuming you're not rushing to the last minute) you've got all this time to do nothing and think "What have I got myself into?!?" But, things are always fine once I get started.

He did very well, such that I could understand it just fine without a background in stress tensor nets. :) If he had nerves, they didn't show, and it flowed very coherently.
