Kitten antics
Aug. 5th, 2003 08:30 pmWe adopted a kitten on Saturday. Those of you following Cat's journal have probably already heard. Her name is Heidi. She is at present curled up on my lap, which should hopefully give me enough time to write this in peace. You see, she's done a couple of exceptionally silly things over the last day or so that just have to be written down.
Last night I was sitting on the couch with my laptop open beside me. She had just been racing around crazy and apparently decided that it was time to sit down for a little while. So she did... right on my laptop, right on the strip at the top of the keyboard so she could lean against the screen. She was arranged a lot like this. I have no idea why. Perhaps it's warm. Actually, considering my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 8200, a regular brick) it's definitely warm. Perhaps it's cozy to lean against. The workings of her kittenish mind are beyond me. Anyway. I removed her from the keyboard, told her "No.", and put her someplace a little bit more appropriate. Zoom, goes the kitten. Beep, protests the laptop. Augh, goes the nerd, then "Down." We repeated this about four or five times before she upped the ante. She put her furry little paw down, both figuratively and literally. In fact, she put it down right on the power switch for my laptop. I've hit it by accident a few times, so I told the computer to ignore it... but she kept her paw there long enough to trigger the emergency-power-off override. I lost a fair amount of work in unsaved files, but I was laughing too hard to care.
I miss Thena something fierce. My desktop wallpaper on my computer at work is a picture of her. I get a lump in my throat whenever I look at it. Kitten therapy is going a long way toward easing that ache.
