There's a stretch of about two years recently during which I didn't fold very much: a couple of mobiles for distant friends, one tessellation and a few cranes, that's it. Then there's this past month. Don't ask me what changed; I have no idea. One way or another, I offer the latest fruits of my obsession.

It's been a long time since I've made one of these. However, for the two of you who haven't yet heard me babbling about it:

As usual, this is one piece of paper: no drawing, no cutting, just folding. The finished piece is a little over 50cm x 35cm. I didn't keep track of how long it took to make. Just... a long time.

Here's a picture of an experiment I finished today. I'm reasonably pleased with how it came out. These 7 pieces are exactly the same folding method with only slight differences in the angles on the outgoing pleats. The image here is a link to a larger one. If you want one larger still, or if you're interested in the underlying math, just ask.

There needs to be another version with better color balance. I know my camera can do it, I just have to figure out how.

My brain has melted and dripped out my ears. When I got up this morning I was incapable of working on my department review presentation like I had planned to. Instead, I went upstairs to the spare bedroom and did this:

It won't get me a raise but it was a lot more satisfying.
